Where to Take Out-of-Town Guests in Bellevue, WA: A Local's Perfect Day

BY VERONICA MORSSNOVEMBER 3, 20264 MIN READ

Where should you take visitors in Bellevue?

For guests who want a polished city day, start at the Bellevue Botanical Garden, then take a slow drive through Medina to see some of the most beautiful homes on Lake Washington. Spend the afternoon shopping at Bellevue Square or The Bravern. In winter, add a skate at the ice rink in Downtown Park. Catch sunset with a drink at Ascend, then finish with dinner at Carmine's.

Bellevue gets a reputation as all glass towers and tech campuses. This day shows guests the gardens, the lake, and the neighborhoods that make it feel like home.

    Morning: Bellevue Botanical Garden

The Bellevue Botanical Garden is my first stop for guests who love to be outside. It's an easy, beautiful walk any season, with themed gardens and woodland trails. Admission is free, and it's open every day from dawn to dusk. In late fall and winter, ask whether Garden d'Lights is running for an evening visit.

Late morning: a drive through Medina

From downtown, it's a short drive west to Medina, one of the most exclusive waterfront communities in the country. Wind along the tree-lined streets near the lake and you'll see estate homes, gardens, and glimpses of Lake Washington. It's a residential neighborhood, so keep it a drive-through and enjoy the scenery from the car.

Afternoon: shopping at Bellevue Square or The Bravern

    Pick based on your guests:

    • Bellevue Square: the classic. It has a wide mix of department stores and favorite brands, connected to Lincoln Square and Bellevue Place in The Bellevue Collection.
    • The Bravern: the luxury stop, with designer boutiques in a quieter, more intimate setting.

Winter bonus: the ice rink in Downtown Park

This season, from November 13, 2026 through January 18, 2027, the Bellevue Downtown Ice Rink sets up in Downtown Park. It's a festive, easy addition if your guests are here for the holidays. It's open every day of the season.

    Sunset: a drink at Ascend

For the best view in Bellevue, head up to Ascend Prime Steak & Sushi in Lincoln Square for a cocktail at sunset. On a clear evening you can see Lake Washington, the Seattle skyline, and the Olympics.

    Dinner: Carmine's

End at Carmine's for Italian. It's a pretty and elevated environment, and my go-to dish is the osso buco!
